Talking About the Past Year

Jul 5, 2022

This is PsiACE. I was supposed to keep writing the iteration notes called "Decameron", but more than a month has passed since the previous issue, and I cannot really bring myself to continue.

So let this be a special issue. After all, 2022 is already halfway through, and I have also been moving along my career path for about a year. It feels like an interesting checkpoint.

Small Milestones Worth Being Happy About

Personal

  • Reducing carbs + taking more walks = a weight-loss plan. It has been fairly effective. I have lost about seven or eight jin, and it feels like returning to a standard build is within reach.
  • I have gradually started effective schedule and time management. The key step seems to be recording rather than tracking.

Small Troubles of a Young Person

Life

  • Maybe I have been stuck at home for too long. I am not very active as a person, and many interesting ideas have been put aside.
  • I miss my girlfriend, I miss my girlfriend, I miss my girlfriend. The pandemic is really annoying.
  • My sleep quality is quite good, but I always feel like I do not sleep enough, and insomnia is also fairly serious.

Career

  • For a few months, my state was relatively low. Although I produced databend-perf and databend-internals during that time, I am honestly not that satisfied.
  • databend-perf has been online for a few months. It has exposed quite a few bugs and has recently gone on strike again.
  • Some time ago, @BohuTANG asked about my growth during the first year after joining, and mentioned the sense of ownership. I feel that I should learn more from @Xuanwo and @flaneur2020.

Some Plans After This

Learning

  • Pick English and mathematics back up.

Work

  • Try to do a round of splitting / test refactoring for databend-query.
  • Keep polishing PsiACE/databend-internals, add new content in time, and try to formally move it into datafuselabs for maintenance.
  • Continue exploring good forms and strategies for developer operations.
  • Improve my technical level and input, and try to land some ideas that look great.

That is all for now. Perhaps I will see you in the next iteration!
